Words of Wisdom From Mother Teresa & Dalai Lama XIV

As I say on the Welcome! page, I have been blessed with many teachers over the course of my life (especially in the last several years).  Some of those teachers were friends or family members or those otherwise personally connected to me. But many were people I have never met.

I thought, today, I would like to share two of my favorite lessons from two of my favorite teachers with you.  I hope you find the same kind of strength and guidance I have found so many times in these well-chosen words.

When asked “What thing about humanity surprises you the most?”, the Dalai Lama answered:

“Man…. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived.”

“Do It Anyway”

People are often unreasonable, illogical and self-centered: Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives; Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies; Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you; Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight; Build anyway.

The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow; Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough; Give the world the best you’ve got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God; It was never between you and them anyway.
